Description
The Crown of East Africa is the most expansive journey within the Orok collection — a carefully designed expedition that moves across the great ecosystems of the region. From the elephant plains of northern Tanzania to the migration corridors of Kenya, from Rwanda’s mist-covered volcanoes to the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, this journey reveals East Africa in its most complete form.
It is a safari shaped by contrast and balance: vast savannahs, ancient forests, and quiet ocean horizons. Along the way, travellers encounter lions on the Serengeti plains, follow migrating herds through the Maasai Mara, stand face to face with mountain gorillas, and finally unwind along warm tropical shores.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Arusha
A private transfer leads through fertile countryside toward your lodge in Arusha, resting beneath the forested slopes of Mount Meru. The evening is quiet and restorative, allowing time to settle gently into the rhythm of East Africa before the journey begins.
Day 2 - The Elephant Kingdom of Tarangire
Tarangire is famous for its immense elephant population. During the dry season thousands of animals gather along the Tarangire River — giraffes browsing the acacias, buffalo roaming the plains, and lions resting beneath the shade of ancient baobab trees.
Day 3 - Tarangire Wilderness
Large elephant families move slowly across the savannah while colourful birdlife gathers around seasonal wetlands. The day unfolds at a gentle safari rhythm, allowing time to absorb the stillness of this remarkable landscape.
Day 4 - Into the Ngorongoro Highlands
Coffee farms and forested hills gradually replace the open savannah while Maasai herders guide cattle across the slopes. By evening, your lodge rests near the crater rim where cool highland air drifts through the surrounding forest.
Day 5 - The Ngorongoro Crater
The floor of Ngorongoro Crater supports a dense concentration of animals — lions, hyenas, elephants, and vast herds of antelope. Flamingos gather along soda lakes while the rare black rhinoceros occasionally appears across the grasslands.
Day 6 - Entering the Serengeti
Wildlife sightings begin long before reaching the park boundary as zebras and gazelles graze across the open landscape. By afternoon the endless Serengeti horizon unfolds beneath an immense African sky.
Day 7 - The Endless Plains
Lions rest beneath acacia trees, cheetahs scan the grasslands from termite mounds, and elephants wander slowly across the golden plains.
Day 8 - The Great Migration
Depending on the time of year, immense herds of wildebeest and zebra stretch across the Serengeti plains while predators follow closely behind. It is a landscape alive with movement and ancient instinct.
Day 9 - Flight to the Maasai Mara
Below, the plains flow seamlessly into Maasai Mara National Reserve — the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem and one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife regions.
Day 10 - Safari in the Maasai Mara
Wildlife is abundant here — elephants, lions, cheetahs, and immense herds of grazing antelope roam the landscape.
Day 11 - The Mara River
Along the banks of the Mara River, crocodiles and hippos wait patiently while wildebeest gather before attempting the dangerous crossing — one of nature’s most powerful spectacles.
Day 12 - Arrival in Kigali
Your arrival in Kigali introduces a striking contrast — a modern and vibrant city known for its cleanliness, creativity, and warm hospitality.
Day 13 - Into the Virunga Mountains
Terraced farms blanket the hillsides while distant volcanoes rise through the morning mist.
Day 14 - Gorilla Trekking
Guided by expert trackers, the trek enters the dense bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park where habituated mountain gorilla families live.
Spending time in the presence of these gentle giants is an experience that remains unforgettable.
Day 15 - Lake Kivu Retreat
Here the landscape softens into quiet lakefront villages, forested hills, and calm waters. The afternoon is free to relax beside the lake or explore by boat.
Day 16 - Toward the Indian Ocean
The wilderness slowly gives way to warm tropical air as the Indian Ocean appears beyond the horizon.
Day 17 - Island or Coastal Retreat
Both offer coral reefs, dhow sailing, and the gentle rhythm of Swahili coastal culture.
Day 18 - Departure
After breakfast, transfers are arranged for onward international departures — leaving travellers with memories of savannah, forest, and sea woven together into one remarkable expedition.
